Jefferson County Schools is thrilled to announce our upcoming Literacy Week: Read, White, and Blue!, a five-day celebration of reading, writing, and the power of words! From January 26-30, 2026, our schools will be buzzing with special events, guest readers, and inspiring activities designed to ignite a passion for literacy in every student.

This year, our theme, "Read, White, and Blue," encourages us to explore the rich tapestry of American voices and stories, while also fostering school spirit! Get ready for a week packed with discovery, creativity, and community engagement.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store for our students across the district:

Monday, January 26: Kickoff Day!

Red, White, and Blue Day! We’re kicking off Literacy Week with a burst of patriotic spirit! Students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to show their school pride. We'll also launch our daily "Stars, Stripes, and Silent Reading" sessions, dedicated time for independent reading, read-alouds, and shared texts. Let's start the week united in our love for reading!

Tuesday, January 27: America’s Voices Day

Exploring Our Stories Today, we dive into the diverse voices that have shaped America! Through literature, biographies, songs, and historical documents, students will explore different perspectives and celebrate the rich heritage of American expression. It’s a day to discover new heroes and inspiring narratives.

Wednesday, January 28: Write Your Chapter Day

You Are the Author! Every student has a story to tell, and today is all about finding their voice! Students will participate in creative writing activities, from journaling and poetry to short essays, reflecting on how they see themselves contributing to America's future. Get ready to put pen to paper and unleash your inner author!

Thursday, January 29: Community & Civic Literacy Day

Meet Our Guest Readers! We believe literacy connects us all, and today we're bringing our community closer! Students in grades K-6 will enjoy special guest readers from our local community, sharing their favorite stories and inspiring our younger learners. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see literacy in action through the eyes of our neighbors and leaders.

Friday, January 30: Celebrate and Reflect Day

A Grand Finale! To wrap up an amazing week, we’ll celebrate all the reading, writing, and learning we’ve accomplished! Students will participate in reflection activities, classroom discussions, and book talks. It's a chance to share favorite readings, showcase written pieces, and reflect on the power of literacy.

A Word to Our Jefferson County Families: We encourage you to join us in celebrating Literacy Week at home! Share a book with your child, visit your local library, or simply discuss the stories you encounter every day. Your engagement makes a huge difference in fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning.

Let’s make Literacy Week 2026 a memorable one for every student in Jefferson County!
